Klocker echoes this interpretation in his article "Ockham and Efficient Causality."9 He suggests further that Ockham's empirical approach and his insistence that causal connections are contingent led him to reject "metaphysical" principles of causality such as 'Being cannot come from non-being,' 'Whatever is moved is moved by something else,' 'Potency can be reduced to act only ' Ibid. And Gilson is suggesting that for Ockham such association is all that causality consists in. 2."There can be nothing more in concepts than there actually is in intuitions." 3.Therefore, "the relation of cause to effect cannot mean more to the mind than what we actually perceive : a regular sequence between two phenomena."7 Not only does Ockham reduce causality to empirically observed correlations, Gilson charges that he is guilty of "psychologism" as well: ".Since the origin of causality cannot possibly be found in the thing itself, or in the intuition of the thing by the intellect, it must be explained by some other reason and there is but one: it is what Ockham called a habitualis notitia and what Hume will simply call a habit."8 We believe that fire causes heat in wood, because we have habitually associated fire and heat-production in our minds. We have no sense experience of anything flowing out of the putative cause into the putative effect or of any real relation between them, but only of a regular sequence between phenomena. In them, Gilson contends, Ockham understands by 'causality ' nothing more than regular sequence, and he represents Ockham as having arrived at this analysis by means of the following argument : i. Ockham's writings contain causal claims too numerous to count, however. So to conceive of causality, leads to scepticism about the existence of causality. 6 MARILYN MCCORD ADAMS In short, where causality is thought of as some sort of real relation, Ockham's philosophy will allow us no reason to believe that there is any such thing. * The Unity of Philosophical Experience, Charles Scribner's Sons, New York 1937, ch Donnellan, for a helpful discussion of Hume and to Rega Wood for calling my attention to some relevant passages and for checking my quotations from Ockham's Expositio super Octo Libros Physicorum against the Florence manuscript (Firenze Naz. Who could prove to us that, even now, God does not actually do this?"6 1 I am indebted to Robert Merrihew Adams for philosophical and editorial comments to Keith S. For even if heating and combustion regularly occur when fire is close enough to fuel, "God could have decreed once and for all that He Himself would create heat in pieces of wood, or paper, every time the fire would be present to the paper or wood. Rather "what intuitive knowledge teaches us is that every time fire, for instance, comes in contact with a piece of wood, heat begins to appear in that wood."5 Nor can we say that "regular sequences" give us evidence of any ontological connection, given Ockham's views regarding divine omnipotence. Gilson writes, "What is a cause? Most men naturally think, or imagine, that something flows out of the so-called cause and becomes an integral part of the being of the effect.'2 Ockham's most distinguished predecessors had insisted that being a cause and being an effect were mind-independent real relations.3 Yet, Gilson observes, "According to Ockham, there is nothing in sensible experience to confirm such a supposition."4 We have no intuitive cognitions of any such causal influx or real relations. WAS OCKHAM A HUMEAN ABOUT EFFICIENT CAUSALITY?^ In his book The Unity of Philosophical Experience, Etienne Gilson revived the notion that where causality is concerned, William Ockham comes very close to the empiricism of David Hume. Applying it can really lift your animation to a whole new level. Below is the principle of Follow Through and Overlapping action. YouTube Channel AlanBeckerTutorials has an entire series demonstrating the twelve principles of animation. Actions that are caused by the main action dragging something else along with it, that then follows through and continues to move momentarily after the main action has stopped.Īn obvious example is if a long haired character turns their head really quickly their hair will react to that motion, following the head as it turns, and then continuing to move when the head stops, until it loses its momentum and is still again.Īnother example might be a character twirling in a long skirt. The principle my tutorial demonstrates is actually known as 'Follow Through and Overlapping Action'. Find out how to make that Bubble Top Knot Bounce Many Chinese imaging companies, for example, will not sell any satellite pictures of China, North Korea, Taiwan, or Tibet. These are far from comprehensive, and some images are withheld from public access for national security reasons, a process known as shutter control. While the entire surface of the planet gets photographed multiple times a day at low resolution, the sharpest images from the latest commercial satellites can still cost upwards of $3,000, according to a price list at Apollo Imaging, a satellite imagery aggregator. Since our providers often focus on cities and places that are more heavily populated, these regions tend to get updated imagery more frequently.” The satellite images on Google Maps cover only about one-fifth of Earth’s surface-but 98% of its population. But its adult-oriented story could use a. High-resolution Planet images of parts of The Line do seem to be available for licensing, although none have surfaced publicly on Google Maps to date.Ī Google spokesperson told MIT Technology Review: “We are constantly updating satellite imagery as it becomes available from our imagery providers. 19 release date on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, is billed as an interactive thriller about a man stuck in a time loop. But none of those components make up for what is, ultimately, a game founded on contrived mechanics and underwhelming storytelling. The game’s premise was brilliant, the concept trailer was masterful, and the cast couldn’t have been better. We tend to concentrate first on those areas that exhibit the most change (e.g., cities, etc.) but will fill in those other areas of the globe as well.” 12 Minutes is the car crash you wince at, but can’t help but crane your neck to stare at. Stephen Wood, senior director of Maxar’s news bureau, told MIT Technology Review: “We do not have any recent high-resolution imagery that has been collected over these areas.” He wrote that the company primarily focuses on its customers’ areas of interest but “when we have available imaging time, we will collect other areas as part of our overall mission to continually update the entire globe with high-resolution imagery. “My immediate reaction is that no one bothered with high resolution because it’s in the middle of a desert and high-resolution imagery is incredibly expensive to own and distribute.” “I’ve not heard of any commercial company trying to restrict things,” says Doug Specht, a geography lecturer at the University of Westminster in London. “Probably the simplest solution is that a money interest is purchasing those images at the highest level, where they maintain an exclusive right to them.” “If there’s no Maxar images acquired over an area that is experiencing rapid economic investment, something fishy is going on,” Van Den Hoek says. One of the main commercial uses for satellite imagery is to help companies understand how their rivals or entire countries are faring in the global marketplace-to see, for example, “how many cranes are active on the Manhattan skyline right now, or oil tankers are in port,” says Jamon Van Den Hoek, a geography professor and director of the Conflict Ecology Lab at Oregon State University. The story had me gripped all the way through and the side quests/extra silly things were amazingly fun. I enjoyed every moment I played this game. Be ready for an unholy amount of cat and dog puns, I cannot express that enough.Side quests are super adorable and fun, I 100% recommend doing them all, they are also one of the best ways to level/gear up if you’re having issues. You can play this game on PC with mouse and keyboard or with a controller if you prefer.P.s – There is a hedgehog-like creature that will more or less one-shot you near the end game as an optional boss, I dare you to take him on! I managed to beat him, can you!? Extra Notes Much like gear, it is very simple and fast to swap said spells around at any time.Īs far as actual combat goes it is super simple, smash and dodge haha, learning some of the monsters moves and avoiding them mid-combat will be crucial for some of the higher level dungeons and challenges in the game, don’t let the cute adorable graphics and simplistic nature fool you! Lastly, as you progress along on your journey you will come across a wide variety of spells to assist you in combat, both offensive and defensive magic that each hero can be equipped with a limit of 4 each at any given time. Some of the various armor and weapons you can aquireĪs mentioned you play as both the dog and cat so if you are playing solo you can swap freely between the two, or you can play on co-op and have a friend take control of the other character to aid you on your quest to save the world. It is also super fast and simple to open up the menu and swap gear at any time to suit your needs. Additionally, you can upgrade all your weapons and armour by spending money or finding duplicates of that gear out in the world, so you don’t have to ditch your favourite gear just because something better comes along. While specific pairings will complement one another to gear your character as one or the other, they can also be mixed and matched to allow you to create your own personalised play experience. Gear can basically be sorted into two categories, spellcaster or fighter. As your level increases so do your basic stats, though the main aspect of your characters power advancement mainly comes from gear which is acquired from chests and quests as you progress through the game, with each set of gear containing its own unique set of stats and skills. The game is a very simple yet well-executed RPG, you level up by completing dungeons, challenges, quests/side quests and from just killing enemies. Sounds simple, but trust me I got deeply sucked into the story as well as the side quests while playing this amazingly quirky game.Īfter completing this I was hit by two things, first was an overwhelming need to go and play the first Cat Quest, and the second was excitement for any future Car Quest games. In the beginning, you are thrown into a world of cats and dogs, quite literally, where you take control of the previous king of the dogs and king of the cats who need to fight and overthrow the current rulers of their respective race. I want to start off by mentioning I took on this game with zero prior knowledge of the series, which includes never playing the first cat quest so this was an entirely new and blind experience for me. It is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Cat Quest 2 is an RPG played in a top-down perspective, published by The Gentlebros & PQube. Sam and Frodo’s final journey is surprisingly character driven. His actions after the battle at Minas Tirith really did do an incredible job of showing that he deserves the respect, loyalty, and love of his people. Again, I do believe that this was supposed to be the case, with the hobbits becoming the more heroic characters. His victory felt cheap, but he soon redeemed himself in the final third. The hobbits often surpass even Aragorn in their bravery and heroic accomplishments.ĭespite Aragorn being such a strong character in the previous two books, the first third of his arc in The Return of the King was almost a disappointment in comparison. Tolkien seemed to want his heroes to be the little guys who were full of honesty, love, and loyalty. Merry, like Perrin, also develops very quickly into an unlikely heroic character. Pippin, however, manages to surpass all expectations and develops into a real heroic character through the threats that he faces. I was surprised by how much I respected him, even with the events that occur. Denethor – the Steward of Gondor – is an incredible character – he’s incredibly loyal to the world of men, but he’s broken and that is his greatest flaw. Gandalf and Pippin’s storyline in The Return of the King is one of my favourites. The plot splits off even more than in The Two Towers, so there are more arcs and characters to follow, and even more of the world to experience and explore. Tolkien is one of the most satisfying and epic conclusions to a fantasy series. possible spoilers for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. My Rating: 5/5 The Return of the King Book Review The developers likely won't be singing the blues, as their small game blew up to unprecedented levels of popularity, and it made a lot of people happy during a very dark time. The same could be said for all video games going forward, but Among Us will suffer the most, as the social interaction that Among Us provides will pale compared to the real thing, once it becomes safe to do so again. Among Us' popularity was linked to lockdown, and once restrictions start to ease, then interest in the game will also start to fade away. Then again, many pundits are already prophecizing the death of the game. It's possible that it could explode in popularity even further in 2021. If we only need a laptop and some I/O gear for a small show, there's no need to chase away a client who can't afford our truck (with "proper hardware and people") because we have nothing else to offer them.īut no, I don't just think you wave a magic video wand to make this stuff happen. The reason I asked my stupid question is that I'm interested in the potential of this software, and also interested in being able to provide small packages for clients that don't have budgets to rent out "proper hardware and people". I currently work for a company that has multiple mobile units, and I'm usually using professional switchers/equipment/people for all our live events. Anyways, I've been directing/producing live television for over 20 years, since the days of 3/4" tape and I know what the "industry standards" are. I'm well aware of what's usually needed for live camera work, but thanks for the totally useless (and patronizing) reply to my question.you must be great fun at parties. Usually there is a operator who does live mixing on dedicated hardware before you add effects(on Modul8 or other). Hire proper hardware and people if you are serious. Vanakaru wrote:Live camera work is not something you do on your lappy. I was hoping to be able to use Modul8 as a live camera switcher with a MacBookPro. The more powerful the computer the better and I would say that in all likeliness you'll need a MacPro with multiple graphics cards to really get real time output properly.Īlso currently MadMapper doesn't support multiple outputs so unless you use a TH2Go/Datapath your stuck with only 1 output anyway. Your desired 4x inputs + 3x outputs might work on spec'd MacPro or Hackintosh but probably won't cut it on a MBP. I have recently built a new hackintosh with a decent GTX580 gpu and can capture a single 1080P25 feed into Resolume, layer 2 clips on top and output 1080 and have realtime output. Using a MacMini i7 capturing in HD-SDI via Quartz and then running into MadMapper 720P50 the delay was minimal, but when running it through Modul8 it ended up causing a 1-2 sec delay. As a result you'll need to look at a triplehead2Go or Datapath X4 to get multiple outputs.īased on my experiments you'll need to limit the amount of processing you're doing to keep camera sync. Lotech wrote:It is possible although you can't use the Decklink Quad to do output at all. (How do I claim my lost money with TechTool Pro - suggestions appreciated as well).Ĥ. Sent the details to TechTool Pro support team, they couldn't help either after a couple of e-mails+data exchange. Again, it's surface scan suggested disk hardware is 100% fine. Tried its bootable DVD only to learn that TechTool Pro cannot fix it. Started googling and had to choose between and, opted for TechTool Pro. I lost the DVDs that came with this Mac Mini, so the option to boot from that DVD and launch Disk Util etc. Volume Repair never worked, since OS X was installed on the primary disk. Surface scan said disk hardware is 100% fine. Performed Mac's Disk-Util check and used to display "invalid directory item count, should be 31 instead of 29". My best guess is that right after the use of Carbon-Copy Cloner (but I am not 100% sure) it all strated to happen.Ģ. When trying to boot, it would show a progress bar for about 5 minutes - I am assuming that was disk-consistency check being performed. All of a sudden, one fine day, on start up, my Mac Mini strated to shut itself down without no apparent reason to me. So please, any casual beginner, please do not demoralize with something like "cannot be done" etc.ġ. I always very much appreciate the efforts of true geeks. The OS/installer from the DVD does not seem to boot either. I have Mac Mini (late 2009) which does not boot anymore and I need to install Snow Leopard using retail DVD (version 10.6). |
